Biography
Joe is a litigator, concentrating his practice in complex litigation, including antitrust, contract disputes, class action defense, consumer protection litigation, Lanham Act, and False Claims Act matters.
Sample representations include:
- Defense of multiple federal and state class actions and attorney general lawsuits against pharmaceutical manufacturers asserting consumer protection and fraud-based claims relating to pharmaceutical pricing, marketing, and reimbursement.
- Representation of pharmaceutical companies in antitrust class actions and attorney general lawsuits related to Hatch-Waxman “reverse payment” settlements.
- Trademark infringement cases on behalf of pharmaceutical and luxury goods manufacturers resulting in injunctive relief and judgments against sellers of counterfeit products.
- Litigation and settlement of a nationwide product liability class action.
In addition to his litigation experience, Joe has counseled clients on antitrust issues, participated in antitrust compliance reviews and investigations, and currently serves as antitrust counsel for a title insurance underwriter trade group. Joe has also taught antitrust law as an adjunct professor at the UMKC School of Law.
Joe joined the firm in 1995, after a clerkship with Judge G.T. Van Bebber of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. Before attending law school, Joe held various management positions during a career in federal government. While in law school, Joe was articles editor of the UMKC Law Review and a member of the Order of Bench and Robe.
