Biography

Ed focuses his practice on the handling and trial of products liability matters, complex commercial cases, and defense of class actions. Ed's trial skills have received the highest recognition of his peers: Ed is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the International Society of Barristers. Ed is also consistently listed in The Best Lawyers in America and has been selected as one of the top 10 litigators in Florida. He has been featured in Expert Guides: Guide to the World's Leading Product Liability Lawyers and in Who’s Who Legal: The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers, which has recognized him as a leading individual product liability practitioner since 2009. Ed has also been listed in the 2010, 2011 and 2013 Benchmark Litigation: The Definitive Guide to America's Leading Litigation Firms & Attorneys as a national products liability litigation star and as a 2010 Florida litigation star. He has been included in Florida Super Lawyers 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, as well as the 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. Ed has also been named to the 2011, 2012 and 2013 editions of the South Florida Legal Guide's "Top Lawyers" list and recognized in the 2011 and 2012 editions of Lawdragon 500: Leading Lawyers in America.

Ed has represented numerous corporations in defending class action lawsuits. Some of his notable class action experience includes co-lead counsel in smoking and health cases in Florida. He has also defended various class action claims against such clients as Home Depot, American Home Products (diet drug litigation), various members of the insurance industry, and the health care industry.

Ed has tried product liability cases for clients such as DuPont, Westinghouse Corporation, American Motors, Texaco, Otis Elevator, United Technologies, Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, Hartford Insurance Company, and The Boeing Company (in the Aero Peru Crash). He served as co-lead defense counsel in the DuPont Plaza fire case in San Juan, Puerto Rico; represented Boeing Company in numerous crash disasters; represented Texaco in an "environment spill" - toxic tort case; and represented Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in two major class action trials.

Ed has also represented numerous architectural and construction firms in construction-related litigation, including his representation of Westinghouse in litigation arising from construction of the Miami Metrorail System.

Ed is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Florida; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits; and the Supreme Court of the United States.
