Law School Workshops - SHB partners with student organizations such as the Hispanic Law Student Law Association and the Black Law Students Association on programs that offer practice advice on improving resumes and interviewing skills.

Diversity Lecture Series - Distinguished law professors in the firm's 2007 lecture series included race relations expert Frank Wu, author of Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White, and work/life expert Joan Williams, author of Unbending Gender: Why Family and Work Conflict and What to Do About It.
Firmwide Diversity Training - All SHB attorneys and staff complete diversity awareness training. SHB lawyers are also required to complete annual Diversity Action, Accountability and Achievement Checklists.

SHB Accolades
The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has recognized SHB for its outstanding diversity program by awarding the Thomas L. Sager Award to the firm in 2001 and 2002. In 2004, the Jackson County Bar Association honored SHB with its inaugural Pyramid of Diversity Award for supporting diversity in Kansas City through recruiting, retention and promotion policies, as well as through partnerships with organizations that share the same goal. SHB San Francisco also received the No Glass Ceiling Award in 2005 from the Bar Association of San Francisco for exceeding the signatory law firms' goal of having at least 25 percent women in partnership positions and at least 25 percent women in management positions within two years. In 2006, SHB was awarded the annual DRI Law Firm Diversity Award from the Defense Research Institute for its demonstrated diversity in policies, practices and civic contributions. The Coca-Cola Co. in 2008 presented SHB with its Living the Values Award in recognition of the firm’s progressive diversity practices. In addition, Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers selected SHB as one of the "Best Law Firms for Women."
