Jacobs Speaks at Chicago Bar Association Class Action Seminar

Shook, Hardy & Bacon Chicago Managing Partner Todd Jacobs contributes to the Chicago Bar Association’s Challenges to Class Membership seminar on Thursday, May 14 in Chicago.

The seminar presented by the Chicago Bar Association’s Class Action Committee, covers the recent rise in early challenges to class certification, including class definitions, class membership, and class member injury and standing. The seminar includes commentary from seasoned practitioners on both sides of the bar.

Jacobs joins four other attorneys for two speaking events during the seminar. The first, titled “Challenges to Ascertainability and ‘Fail-Safe’ Classes,” discusses new trends in challenges to class definitions and the results of those challenges.

In the second and final event, titled “Challenges to Article III Standing and the Issue of Absent Class Member Injury,” Jacobs and the other panelists explore recent challenges to class certification, including absent class member standing and injury, and the relationship of those issues to the commonality and predominance requirements of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23.
