John Murphy Named New Joint Chair of KC Rising Steering Committee

Shook, Hardy & Bacon Partner John Murphy has been named one of the new joint chairs of the KC Rising Steering Committee. He will lead the regional development initiative with William Gautreaux, President and CMO at Crestwood Midstream Partners LP, and Sandy Price, Great Plains Energy board member and retired Sprint executive.

KC Rising is a business-led effort to bring the area’s business, civic and educational communities together to accelerate economic growth, increase global competitiveness and improve employment opportunities for Kansas City-area residents. Murphy has been a member of its Steering Committee since 2014.

Murphy’s experience as both a trial attorney and a chief executive gives him unique insight into the challenges facing businesses; he focuses on creative and practical solutions to deliver budget predictability, efficiency and results. During his tenure as firm Chair, Shook became the first and only law firm to win the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Value Champion award three times.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the KC Rising Steering Committee since day one and I’m eager to step into a greater leadership role as chair,” said Murphy. “Our work to advance a number of initiatives through partnerships across the largest civic organizations in our region is unprecedented.  I look forward to leveraging our collaboration even further.”

KC Rising’s local partners include The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, the Mid-America Regional Council, the Kansas City Area Development Council, the KC Chamber and regional chambers of commerce.
