Sam represents consumer products companies in their most significant disputes worldwide. He has 30 years of experience defending novel and complex litigation and regulatory challenges in the U.S., Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia—with knowledge of the various legal systems in these jurisdictions.

Product Liability Litigation—Sam has defended hundreds of cases—including mass torts and group actions—against product manufacturers alleging tort and civil law remedies. Sam’s cases routinely require him to distill complex scientific research and product information into oral and written arguments that courts and regulators can readily understand. And he has provided frequent risk assessments for product manufacturers.

Regulatory Investigations and Litigation—Sam advises on product manufacturing and marketing/advertising regulations in the U.K. and Europe. He has defended investigations and challenges by regulators in numerous jurisdictions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Document Preservation/Disclosure—Sam has helped multinational clients understand and meet their document preservation and discovery/disclosure requirements in litigation. Sam helps companies prepare and roll out legal hold programs tailored to their litigation risk profile while being sensitive to the fact that, in many jurisdictions, document discovery/disclosure is an unfamiliar concept. He has vast experience overseeing the collection, review and production in litigation of documents and electronically stored information located outside the U.S.

Before joining Shook’s London office, Sam was the managing partner of the firm’s Geneva office, where he oversaw a team of 10 partners and several associates and professional staff. Before Geneva and London, Sam practiced in Shook’s Kansas City office.
