Melaina’s practice focuses on the defense of corporations in product liability litigation, especially tobacco litigation. As a member of Shook’s team focused on Engle-progeny cases, she drafts motions and discovery materials and assists with case strategy and fact investigation.

Melaina developed strong advocacy skills while in law school. She was a member of several moot court teams that won national and international competitions, including the Andrews Kurth Moot Court National Championship—where Melaina received the Best Oralist Award—and the International Moot Court Competition in Information Technology and Privacy Law. She also won the Best Oralist Award in her school’s First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition and served as an associate justice on the board of the moot court program.
