Marty has over 25 years of experience defending Fortune 100 companies in national complex product liability litigation. She has handled dockets involving hundreds of high-profile, complicated, multi-party cases, including class actions and personal injury product liability matters throughout the United States. She has led national counsel teams in Florida, California, Indiana and Mississippi. She has extensive experience in managing large teams of attorneys and professional staff and coordinating with a nationwide network of local counsel firms. She has conducted and/or presented at numerous training sessions for in-house and outside counsel. She currently focuses her domestic practice on client counseling, particularly with regard to national strategic litigation management and written discovery.
Marty has a growing international practice and has advised international manufacturers in civil liability arising out of the sale and use of their products, with a particular focus on Latin American. She also counsels international clients on litigation prevention strategies and legislative projects that impact or alter civil liability risks. She has worked with counsel in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Australia.
Marty served four terms on the firm's Executive Committee and acted as the managing partner for the Global Product Liability Group for more than a decade. She was responsible for recruiting, training, mentoring and supervising more than 200 attorneys and professional support staff in offices located in Missouri, California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, D.C., England and Switzerland. Marty is committed to cost-efficient, effective management of large complex litigation and is experienced in handling variety of alternative fee arrangements.
Marty has a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She is the former chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and an Executive Committee advisor to the Director of Strategic Diversity Initiatives. She serves as a board member for the Shook, Hardy & Bacon Foundation, whose mission is to increases diversity in the legal profession. She is active in the firm’s Women’s Management Council and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association. She has given numerous presentations on work-life balance, the importance of diversity, mentoring and pathways to success. She has been a member of the firm’s Management Committee, Search Committee and Associates Committee. She was the first female partner elected to the firm’s Executive Committee.
