ABA Products Liability Committee Newsletter Features Shook's "Autonomous Vehicles Year in Review"

Shook Partner Doug Robinson and Associate Siena Caruso analyze the emerging field of autonomous vehicle regulation in an extensive, in-depth article, “Autonomous Vehicles Year in Review,” in the Spring 2017 ABA Products Liability Committee Newsletter. In the article, the authors discuss the Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in September 2016 to establish a preliminary framework and best practices for manufacturers and other entities involved in design, development, testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles.

Beginning with a thorough examination of existing regulation at the state level, the article also reviews international developments, cybersecurity issues and autonomous vehicle litigation already filed in federal courts. In addition, the authors consider the legal implications of existing and proposed regulations on manufacturers, suppliers and consumers.
