On September 16, 2009, the 2009 edition of Texas Super Lawyers singled out SHB Houston Managing Partner Gene Williams as an outstanding practitioner in the civil litigation defense category. Peer-recognition ballots are used to nominate attorneys, and additional candidates are identified through an independent search. Final candidates are selected based on experience, professional achievements, bar activities, pro bono and community service, and scholarly lectures and writings. Not every Texas law firm was fortunate enough to have an attorney nominated. Only five percent of Texas lawyers were named to the list.
