Shook Launches COVID-19 PREP Act Hub and Webinar Series

Liability issues are a risk when companies and organizations participate in providing medical countermeasures for public health emergencies, such as COVID-19. To this end, Shook has launched an on demand webinar series focused on the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act. The series, “Navigating PREP Act Immunity,”  features industry-focused webinars on the PREP Act and its protections and effects on emergency measures taken in times of COVID-19. The webinars, alongside additional resources, are accessible through Shook’s newly launched PREP Act Intelligence Hub.

In the webinar series, Shook attorneys guide viewers through the nuances of liability immunity provided by the PREP Act in three separate sessions targeted to life science companies, general manufacturers and health care providers.

Focus on Life Science

This webinar addresses implications of the PREP Act for life science companies, with Shook attorneys charting a course through the path to legal immunity. Viewers learn about FDA law and how it relates to the PREP Act, consider how products are distributed and go through an immunity checklist to learn more about how life science companies can protect against unnecessary litigation.

Focus on General Manufacturing

Shook attorneys break down what general manufacturers need to know concerning PREP Act protections in this webinar, showing examples of products manufactured, key questions every manufacturer should ask about its products, FDA regulatory requirements, limitations on distributions, when PREP Act protections can end and PREP Act checklists for both products and distribution.

Focus on Health Care Providers

What are the implications for the PREP Act for health care providers? Who is considered a covered person? A qualified person? What is a covered activity? A covered health condition? Is the product you’re using a covered countermeasure? Shook attorneys help health care providers answer these questions, with a final takeaway emphasis on why facts, documentation and planning are of key importance.

Other information provided within this series include an introductory overview of the PREP Act, covered countermeasures, and other options and information that may provide protections when PREP Act immunity is not applicable.

Shook’s PREP Act Intelligence Hub not only houses these webinars, but will be an ongoing resource of vital information for companies grappling with doing business during these extraordinary times.
