Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley selected Shook Partner John (Jay) Simpson, and others, to the formation of an advisory board to develop the first statewide program in Missouri providing pro bono legal services to current military service members.
Once launched, the Military Legal Assistance Team will be Missouri’s first attorney general-led program offering military communities access to pro bono civil legal services. The program will work closely with attorneys from military bases in Missouri to connect services members with qualifying legal needs to private pro bono attorney who will provide legal counsel and representation.
Simpson has a strong commitment to providing legal services for veterans. In 2016, he earned the President’s Award on behalf of the Military Matters Operating Committee, which he chairs. The committee works with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation to provide pro bono legal serves to veterans and active-duty military personnel in the greater Kansas City area.
The Military Legal Assistance Team will formally launch in early 2018.
