Jon focuses his intellectual property practice on patent and trademark law. He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in numerous technology areas including software, electronics, industrial machinery, mechanical devices, hydraulic systems, weapon systems, medical devices, sports equipment and toys, payment systems, video games and 3-D printers. Jon also has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering which informs his preparation and prosecution of patent applications in fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, avionics systems, fuel systems for aircraft, propulsion systems for aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and missiles. He has also prosecuted many trademark applications and assisted clients in trademark disputes.

Jon has experience in preparing petitions and responses for inter partes review as well as preparing appeal briefs. He negotiates and drafts intellectual property licenses and prepares patentability, invalidity, non-infringement and freedom-to-operate opinions.

Before practicing intellectual property law, Jon practiced criminal law where he first-chaired jury trials and bench trials. During law school, he served in the Kansas National Guard where he led a response to a flooding disaster and was a company commander. Prior to law school, Jon served as an active duty Army officer where he earned a Bronze Star Medal for his service in Iraq.
