Tearra is a legal counsel to domestic and global clients in various industries. She advises clients with respect to IP strategy, due diligence in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, competitive subject matter identification, patentability and clearance investigations, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, drafting and negotiating agreements, data privacy and litigation support. 

Tearra is experienced in the electrical, software and mechanical arts. She has a bachelor of engineering degree in computer engineering from Vanderbilt University, where she studied electrical engineering and computer science with a secondary study in management of technology. This educational background gives her a deep understanding of IP legal issues involving these technologies. 

She has prepared and prosecuted patent applications including patent families of computer, electrical and mechanical innovations, conducted invention disclosure meetings and examiner interviews, responded to office actions, conducted invention harvesting sessions and has performed patentability and clearance investigations.

Tearra provides IP due diligence counseling and review. In one case, she counseled on IP due diligence in a $3.45 billion dollar M&A transaction for a technology company’s acquisition of a communications and telecommunications provider. She also provides IP portfolio strategy counseling and review and data privacy and litigation support and drafts IP assignments, licensing agreements, software agreements and other commercial agreements.

Before law school, Tearra gained extensive experience as a consultant, project manager and business developer and worked with internal and external clients across multiple businesses.
