Alan focuses his practice on commercial litigation, biometric and data privacy, and employment litigation. Many of his cases also involve collective and class actions, and later, appellate practice. Alan prides himself on providing practical, tailored advice and legal services to his clients, based on their particular goals and situations. He is equally comfortable disposing of cases in the most expedient, cost-effective manner, as well as innovating novel legal arguments and participating in bellwether trials.
Alan has experience in all phases and aspects of litigation, ranging from pre-suit advisement to discovery and motion practice to complex jury trials lasting several weeks. A known trivia buff, Alan leverages his aptitude for acquiring knowledge to quickly develop a strong command of the facts and circumstances underlying each of his cases. This gives him an edge in the courtroom, particularly during live events such as motion hearings, arbitrations, mediations and trial.
In recent years, Alan has dedicated much of his practice to cybersecurity and biometric privacy actions, including claims brought under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. As the lead associate on numerous BIPA and cybersecurity class actions filed across the country, Alan relishes the challenge of navigating a burgeoning practice area and charting new legal territory on a near daily basis. Specifically, in handling cyber liability disputes involving businesses, vendors, and employee claims, Alan is able to synergize his commercial and employment litigation experience with his data privacy acumen to provide greater insights to his clients.
In addition to the above, Alan also has experience in a variety of other areas, including product liability and toxic tort litigation. He was exposed to various practice areas in law school, as he served as a judicial intern to the Hon. Dolores K. Sloviter, Senior Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and interned for the in-house legal departments of two major American companies. Since 2019, Massachusetts Super Lawyers has named Alan a “Rising Star” in civil litigation defense.
In conjunction with his legal practice, Alan has been highly active in Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) advocacy since his undergraduate days, and was the chair of his law school’s chapter of the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association. He also speaks fluent Cantonese.
Alan is also a leader in Shook’s pro bono efforts, focusing his contributions on supporting and advocating for victims of domestic violence.
