SHB Attorneys to Speak at Litigation Conference

Shook, Hardy & Bacon attorneys John Barkett and Stan Davis will be CLE program speakers at the ABA Section of Litigation 2004 Annual Conference on Thursday, May 6, at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Barkett will be the moderator in a session titled “Avoiding Potholes: Discovery and Ethics on the Highway to Trial.” What are the limits on acquiring information outside the formal discovery process? What are litigators’ obligations to ensure that clients comply with subpoenas? What must litigators do to prevent obstruction and perjury? In an interactive format, panelists will analyze how ethics rules apply to such questions and offer practical solutions.

Davis will be one of the panelists in “Written in Stone? A Fresh Look at 10 Commandments of Trial Practice.” This program will feature a “contrarian” and mischievous review of 10 widely recognized trial technique doctrines and whether they have stood the test of time. A panel of outstanding trial lawyers and trial technique teachers will examine each in a debate that promises to be lively and thought-provoking and of value to litigators of all types.
