SHB Hosts International Education Program

Shook, Hardy & Bacon is hosting an in-house educational program, “Legal Briefing on International Product Liability Law,” on June 15 at 10 a.m. in Whittall Pavilion at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

This in-depth program will educate and inform counsel of the Law Library of Congress, senate and congressional committees on emerging product liability laws, litigation and related consumerism around the globe. The event is being produced by SHB and coordinated by the Burton Foundation. SHB Partner Greg Fowler, who is general editor and chapter author of International Product Liability Law: A Worldwide Desk Reference, will facilitate the program.

The topics and speakers on the program include:

  • “Program Overview and International Product Liability Law Situation Analysis,” Victor E. Schwartz of SHB’s Washington, D.C. office

  • “Overview of Legal, Litigation and Product Liability Systems and Regimes: Emphasis on Predictors of Probability/Severity of Product Liability Litigation”

  • “Product Liability Laws – Important Global Markets,”
    England and Wales: Simon Castley,  SHB-London
    Germany: Michael Molitoris, Nörr Stiefenhofer Lutz, Munich
    People’s Republic of China: Xy Li, King & Wood, Beijing

There will also be a “Facilitated Panel Discussion (International Product Liability Law and the Global Market Place).” The panel includes speakers from four different countries: Castley of the United Kingdom, Molitoris of Germany, Li of the People’s Republic of China, and SHB’s Harvey L. Kaplan and Schwartz of the United States.
