Firm Co-Sponsors South Asian Bar Convention

Shook, Hardy & Bacon was a co-sponsor of the Third Annual National Convention of the North American South Asian Bar Association (NASABA) held in Atlanta on June 16-18, 2006.  Titled "Networking to Influence, Influencing the Network:  South Asian Lawyers Changing the Flow of the Mainstream,” the event connected more than 350 leading South Asian attorneys and U.S. business leaders to share ideas and attend substantive lectures.

SHB Partner Kamran Q. Khan was invited to participate in a panel discussion titled “Succeeding Within Firm and Corporate Cultures.”  Based in the firm’s Kansas City office, Kamran is a member of the National Products Liability Division.  Kamran is a founding member and current Vice Chair of SHB’s Diversity Committee.  He is also a member of SHB’s Search Committee.  Kamran was joined on the panel by Saba Ashraf of Alston & Bird, Raj Davé of Morrison & Forrester and Anil Chaddha of General Electric.

Preet Chahal of SHB’s San Francisco office and Sarita Pendurthi of SHB’s Washington, D.C. office also represented the firm at the NASBA conference.

“NASABA is a growing organization that we identified as a vital group that we’d like to collaborate with on a regular basis,” said Tina L. Harris, SHB’s Director of Strategic Diversity Initiatives.  “This annual convention allows attorneys to share stories from their perspectives, as well as exchange ideas as to what is going on in their field.”

In addition to regular events such as the annual convention, NASABA also maintains a nationwide directory of South Asian legal professionals who provide professional services to the United States and Canada.  By promoting the South Asian bar and focusing on the legal needs of the South Asian community, NASABA is the fastest growing organization of South Asian lawyers in the world.
