SHB Receives 2006 Law Firm Diversity Award from DRI
Shook, Hardy & Bacon received the 2006 Law Firm Diversity Award from the Defense Research Institute (DRI) at the organization's awards luncheon on Thursday, October 12, at DRI’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
The award, established in 2002, is given each year to a law firm that has achieved outstanding diversity goals. In deciding to honor SHB, the DRI board noted that the firm's "commitment to diversity is demonstrated not only through [our] policies and practices, but by [our] many civic contributions as well."
2006 has been an active year for SHB’s diversity committee. In addition to administering a wide variety of relevant initiatives within the firm, SHB’s attorneys have helped lead and/or sponsor influential and timely events and programs affiliated with various professional associations. SHB has thus continued the firm’s tradition of being a vocal advocate in the promotion of diversity in the legal profession, by collaborating with organizations such as the American Bar Association, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, and the Asian-American Bar Association, among others. The firm also provided foundational support for the Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair, which was originally created in 2004 by Of Counsel Tina Harris, SHB's Director of Strategic Diversity Initiatives.
"Shook, Hardy & Bacon has been a strong believer in the strength of diversity for many years," said the firm's chairman, John F. Murphy. "This award, which we are so grateful to receive, serves as strong testimony to that fact, particularly coming from an organization as universally recognized as the DRI."
DRI is the national organization of defense trial lawyers and corporate counsel, and provides numerous educational and informational resources to its membership and offers many opportunities for liaison among defense trial lawyers, corporate America, and state and local defense organizations.
