Miami Office Continues Beneficence to JESCA
Continuing its mission to serve its local community, the SHB Miami office held a Christmas toy drive and hosted a holiday party for the children enrolled in the Head Start program at James E. Scott Community Association (JESCA) Center for Early Childhood Development in Overtown. As an ongoing supporter for JESCA, the firm's donations helped impact the lives of 60 children by giving each student two toys. The firm has supported the organization financially for several years through holiday giving and ongoing fundraising for the program.
At the December toy drive, the children were first greeted by the entertainment of Partner John Barkett, who performed various juggling acts and an animal balloon presentation. Afterwards, the SHB Secret Santa, played by paralegal Tim Vazquez, visited with the children while Partner Eileen Moss, attorneys Camila Tobon and Mihai Vrasmasu, and firm volunteers distributed gifts and a McDonald’s happy meal. In addition, SHB also donated several special “angel” gifts to the family of two girls surviving the recent loss of their mother due to heart disease at the age 29.
Throughout the years, SHB has recognized JESCA's hard work and dedication and has supported its growth. In previous years, the firm has helped the Center build its library and participated in annual Halloween and Christmas celebrations. This year a special SHB angel client, brought by John Barkett, purchased the Center new art supplies, a TV/VCR/DVD, computer, printer, digital camera and refrigerator to aid in program development.
The James E. Scott Community Association's Head Start program is a federally funded initiative offered to children ages 0-5, and provides for families in the areas of education, nutrition, medical, dental, mental health and disabilities.
