Andreasen Participates in Mock ABA Biotech Hearing
SHB Of Counsel Jim Andreasen participated in a mock hearing titled "Biotech Meets Nanotech Down on the Farm: A Mock Public Hearing to Explore 21st Century Permitting Issues" at the fall meeting of the American Bar Association's Section on Environment, Energy and Resources, held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 26-27. The mock hearing related to a concentrated animal feeding operation's state/federal water permit. Andreasen represented marketers of a biotech-based feed and a nanotech-based holding pond treatment, arguing that the animal operation's water permit could appropriately incorporate the two technologies. Other participants presented arguments supporting the permit from the point of view of the permitee and opposing it from the points of view of neighbors, a public interest group and a university. The mock hearing was held before the Honorable Michele Coleman of the Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board. Judge Coleman took the matter under advisement at the conclusion of the hearing. Andreasen prepared an analysis of permitting issues and of the nanotech and biotech issues applicable to the hearing. Please click here to access to analysis.
