Human Rights Campaign Honors Firm
Shook, Hardy & Bacon was honored by the Kansas City Steering Committee for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for supporting workplace equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees during its second annual "Corporate Celebration of Equality" event held November 8, 2007. The firm participated in HRC's Corporate Equality Index survey, which ranks businesses according to a number of criteria, including non-discrimination policies and training, domestic partner benefits and diversity initiatives. HRC recognizes those businesses receiving the highest marks on the survey and included the firm among its 2008 honorees.
Also honored at the November 8, 2007, event were Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Applebee's International, Hallmark Cards, JP Morgan, and Sprint Nextel Corp. According to Marjorie Troxel Hellmer, Diversity Co-Chair for HRC's Kansas City Steering Committee, "Companies here are getting national attention for treating their associates with equality. The results from the Corporate Equality Index help them draw high-performing employees who seek an inclusive workplace that doesn't discriminate." This year, 195 major U.S. businesses earned the top 100 percent rating - an increase of 40 percent over a year ago. Click here to review the full report.
