Law360 Features Shook’s Engle Win in Federal Court

Law360 recently featured Shook, Hardy & Bacon’s successful representation of Philip Morris USA in the first Engle progeny case to go to trial in federal court. The defense verdict was delivered after less than an hour of deliberation by the Florida federal jury and represents the 12th victory in the last 17 Engle trials.

The plaintiff alleged that her husband’s lung cancer and other related health problems were caused by smoking cigarettes manufactured by Philip Morris, but the jury found smoking was not the medical cause of the injuries and delivered a complete defense verdict.
