Former Shook Partner Marie Woodbury Honored by University of Kansas
The University of Kansas School of Law (KU) has named Shook, Hardy & Bacon Former Partner Marie Woodbury as a recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award, which “celebrates graduates for their professional achievements, contributions to the legal field and service to their communities and the university.”
Woodbury began a career at Shook that spanned nearly 40 years. During her tenure, she focused on pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, product liability and class action and complex litigation. Her work in the courtroom garnered recognition from a number of organizations, including Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, Best Lawyers in America, LMG Life Sciences and the Kansas City Business Journal.
Dedicated to the professional development of women and early-career attorneys, Woodbury served as Chair to Shook’s Professional Development Committee, Search Committee and the Women’s Management Council. She was a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and a member of the Trial Law Institute.
Woodbury received her B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University before attending KU. During law school, she was named to the Order of the Coif and served as the articles editor for the Kansas Law Review. She earned her J.D. in 1979.
Woodbury will be recognized alongside three other alumni at a private dinner and ceremony on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Shook attorneys Bill Sampson and Gene Balloun have both been previous recipients of the prestigious award.
