Shook Attorney Earns Privacy Manager Designation

Shook Attorney Camila Tobón has earned another privacy designation as a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). The designation is given to lawyers, and others, who have demonstrated specific knowledge of privacy regulations worldwide and the skill set to establish, maintain, and manage a privacy program across all stages of the lifecycle. Tobón previously earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional in EU Law (CIPP/E) designation.

“Much of what I do focuses on helping clients develop and implement a privacy compliance program,” said Tobón, who just completed a secondment with a multinational company to do just that. “The changes to European privacy law that will take effect in May of 2018 will have an impact on many U.S. companies that may not have a formal privacy compliance function.”

Tobón's dual certification positions her well to assist such companies in getting up to speed on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“We want to provide as much knowledge and value as we can for clients,” stated Tobón.

Tobón counsels corporate clients on a variety of matters with an international focus, including privacy and data security, public policy, and consumer litigation. She heads Shook’s International Data Privacy Task Force and handles regulatory and transactional matters relating to privacy and data security.
