Shook Pro Bono Team Helps Make National Adoption Day a Success

Calling it a day set aside to find forever homes for children, Shook attorneys helped make National Adoption Day a success in Johnson County, Kansas.  This year, 29 Kansas children were placed in loving homes and Shook attorneys were responsible for handling the legal work in a majority of those adoptions. More than 70, 000 children nationwide have found permanent homes due to the success of National Adoption Day, since the program began.

Shook has a long history with its commitment to pro bono adoptions. In 2018, the firm reached an important milestone as part of its commitment to serve children and families. The Kansas Foster and Adoptive Children Scholarship Fund, founded by Shook, reached $1 million in scholarships awarded to foster children since the program began in 2001.  The program uses state-paid fees – from pro bono adoption cases – to fund the scholarship program. The firm has completed 1,315 Kansas adoption cases, helping hundreds of families complete the legal process of finding forever homes for deserving families.

Most recently, KSHB shared a story about National Adoption Day and the impact it has on families. Earlier this year, The Kansas City Star reported on Shook’s integral role in the adoption of five siblings who had previously been placed in separate foster homes.
