Miami Team Wins Alonzo Mourning Hoop-Law Basketball Tournament

A team from Shook’s Miami office won the championship title at the 5th Annual Zo’s Hoop-Law Madness 3-on-3 Charity Basketball Tournament, an event founded by NBA star Alonzo Mourning, former center for the Miami Heat.

Partner Mihai Vrasmasu, Of Counsel Antar Vaughan and Document Specialist David Hernandez won first place overall. Associate Katherine Mastrucci has organized Shook's involvement in the tournament for the last five years, since its inception; she and firm alumnus Nick Avedano played on a second Shook team.

Law firms throughout South Florida are invited to participate in the half-court event. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Overtown Youth Center, which Mourning co-founded in 2003 to create a safe haven for children and families. The center provides holistic programming to both youth and parents to help overcome poor education, poverty and crime. Since its founding, 100 percent of participating students have graduated from high school, and a majority have continued to college.
