Shook Attorneys Help Make National Adoption Day a Success for Kansans

Shook attorneys helped make National Adoption Day a success in Kansas again this year. Twenty-two children found forever homes after a proceeding at the Johnson County Courthouse, November 23, 2019.  Shook attorneys were responsible for the legal work in nearly half of these cases.

In Kansas alone, there are more than 900 children waiting to find permanent parents. Nationally, more than 70,000 children have found forever homes due to the success of National Adoption Day, which falls on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Fox4 covered National Adoption Day and shared a story about a Kansas couple who adopted two young girls whose mother was unable to care for them.

Shook has a long history with its commitment to pro bono adoptions. In 2018, the firm reached an important milestone as part of its commitment to serve children and families. The Kansas Foster and Adoptive Children Scholarship Fund, founded by Shook, reached $1 million in scholarships awarded to foster children since the program began in 2001.  The program uses state-paid fees – from pro bono adoption cases – to fund the scholarship program. The firm has completed more than 1500 Kansas adoption cases, helping hundreds of families complete the legal process of finding forever homes for deserving families.
