ALM Honors Shook as Finalists in Diversity Initiative, Young Lawyer and Florida Litigation Awards

The American Lawyer (ALM) has recognized Shook in three categories for The American Lawyer Industry Awards to be presented at a gala in New York City, November 10. Shook is a finalist in Diversity Initiative, Regional Litigation—Florida, and Young Lawyer of the Year (Beyond Practice).

For Diversity Initiative, Shook is recognized specifically for The Honorable Jon Gray Lawyers Leadership Academy, the firm’s 18-month training program designed for a class of six to seven senior associates within two to three years of partnership consideration. The program pairs an associate with a mentor partner, who assists in building acumen in leadership, executive presence, client-facing opportunities and business development, in addition to meaningful work-building trial practice skills.

Shook’s Miami and Tampa offices are recognized in Regional Litigation—Florida. Their excellence in regional results includes obtaining three defense verdicts in three separate trials in significant consumer product liability cases which were covered by several media outlets in 2021.

Associate Mary Olson is recognized for pioneering leadership in transgender advocacy for her pro bono work with Shook’s Project Affirmation, which offers representation in name change and gender marker amendment actions to transgender individuals in the greater Kansas City area. Olson has advocated for over 170 clients in the Project, been a vital resource for the trans community to turn to with questions and for help, and collaborated with attorneys across the nation who seek her advice based on her wealth of experience in name-change and gender-marker amendment law.

The American Lawyer chose the finalists for the annual Industry Awards by selecting from more than 700 submissions to find those lawyers, business professionals, law firms and organizations that are “elevating the profession to new heights.”
