Shook to Host U.S. Supreme Court 2021-2022 Term Review Webinar

Shook Partner and Supreme Court Analyst John Barkett and will present his annual review of the Court in a live webinar, “The U.S. Supreme Court Term 2021-2022: A Review of Recent Decisions and Preview of the Upcoming 2022-2023 Term,” Wednesday, September 7, 1:00-2:15 p.m. ET. 

Moderated by Shook Partner Bill Martucci, Barkett will discuss the controversial term just completed with highlights on abortion, gun rights, and separation of powers (Dobbs, Bruen, and West Virginia v. EPA). Key in the discussion will be Chief Justice Roberts’ waning influence and the state of stare decisis (the policy of precedence) in the current Court. Barkett will complete the webinar with predictions for the upcoming 2022-2023 term. 

Barkett, a published author and recipient of the Burton Award for Legal Achievement, has prepared analyses of the Roberts’ Court for the past nine years. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law.
