ALM Selects Shook Team as a Litigator of the Week ‘Runner-Up’ for Multimillion-Dollar Verdict

ALM’s Litigation Daily featured a Shook team led by Partner Charlie Eblen as a “Runner-Up” for Litigator of the Week, for the team’s February 17 win for client CPI Security Systems in a federal jury trial in North Carolina.

“A Shook, Hardy & Bacon team led by Charlie Eblen gets a runner-up spot for bringing home a $189 million jury verdict, including $140 million in punitive damages, for home security client CPI Security Systems in a trial showdown with rival Vivint Smart Home,” ALM stated.

ALM goes on to report that the jurors in the Charlotte, North Carolina, trial found Vivant liable for deceptive trade practices including falsely suggesting CPI had gone out of business.

In addition to Eblen, ALM also noted Partners Eric Hobbs, Jason Scott and Associate Caroline Gieser.

The case is CPI Security Systems Inc. v. Vivint Smart Home Inc., No. 3:20-cv-00504, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
