Shook Partner Weighs in on Business Litigation Trends
Law Week Colorado featured and quoted Shook Partner Eric Hobbs on trends in business litigation, including current challenges and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in litigation.
“Strict time limits for trial and word limits for briefs are becoming the norm,” stated Hobbs, who sees this current issue of expediting trials as a result of post-pandemic backlog and macroeconomic factors. “Courts want to make more efficient use of time, particularly in civil cases.”
Hobbs, whose diverse litigation practice spans many kinds of high-stakes disputes nationwide and focuses on trials and arbitration, also predicts AI will play a positive role in litigation in the future.
“If systems are developed to help reliably sort through the millions of documents that historically have required teams of attorneys and support staff, for example, that will ultimately make the discovery process substantially cheaper for clients,” Hobbs stated.
Hobbs represents corporate entities as both plaintiffs and defendants, and his litigation experience includes appeals, mass torts and class action proceedings. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America “Ones to Watch” for excellence in the categories of Commercial Litigation, Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions – Defendants, and Product Liability Litigation – Defendants.
