Shook Pays Tribute to Veterans
A message from our Chair, Madeleine McDonough
On Veterans Day, we stop to recognize and honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and reflect on their commitment and sacrifice.
Shook has a long tradition of service to our nation. Dating as far back as Henry C. McDougal, a Civil War veteran who was the mentor and first law partner of our founder Frank P. Sebree, veterans have played key roles at the firm throughout our 130-year history. In fact, two of our namesakes, David Hardy and Charlie Bacon, served our nation before helping build the firm.
Today, veterans are prominent across Shook, from the Executive Committee to all levels of attorneys and business professionals, and the number of our lawyers who have served in one of the military branches is more than double the industry average for firms of our size. We also demonstrate our commitment to veterans through our recruiting initiatives, our Veteran Employee Resource Group and our nationally recognized pro bono efforts.
Members and friends of the firm honored the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans on November 7, when they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
The dedication of our veterans at the firm and around the world continues to inspire us all. Thank you to all who have served.
