Shook Mourns the Passing of Angela Seaton
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our partner, colleague and friend Angela M. Seaton, who passed away July 30.
She joined Shook in 1997 as a summer associate and became a partner in 2009. She primarily handled complex litigation matters for product manufacturers in highly regulated industries, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical product liability defense, and was an integral member of trial teams defending clients in courts across the country.
Over the course of her career, Angela developed a deep understanding of the scientific and medical issues involved in product liability litigation, working closely with experts in many specialties. Her work included multidistrict and coordinated state court litigation involving pharmaceutical and medical device matters, as well as tobacco-related cases and other complex disputes.
“I first met Angela in 1997 when she was a summer associate. She was a natural leader—always welcoming new people, coordinating social activities and making sure everyone was included. I watched her grow as an attorney over the years, taking on increasing responsibility and building the skills and judgment that benefited clients and colleagues alike,” said Madeleine McDonough, chair of Shook. “Angela was a bright light at the firm and will be remembered for her warmth, energy and generosity. She was deeply respected, and those who had the privilege of working with her knew her as a talented lawyer, a trusted teammate and a good friend. We miss her very much.”
A graduate of the University of Kansas, Angela earned her J.D., with honors, from the University of Kansas School of Law and her B.A., with honors, from the university. She was active in several professional organizations, including the Defense Research Institute and the Food and Drug Law Institute, and served the firm through committee work focused on diversity, inclusion and support for colleagues.
