Barbara is a tested attorney who brings extensive real-world experience in health care to her product liability practice, particularly pharmaceutical and medical device litigation.

Before attending law school, Barbara began her career as a registered nurse, spending two decades working in diverse clinical settings. She earned a Master of Science in nursing administration and served as director of occupational health at a Connecticut hospital. These experiences gave her an understanding of the complicated inner workings of hospitals and other health care facilities, and she uses this knowledge to successfully interact with clients and medical experts.

Barbara crafts defense arguments using her trained eye to identify issues in medical records. She has obtained complete defense verdicts in multiple complex medical malpractice, wrongful death, and personal injury cases. Barbara has also resolved numerous catastrophic injury cases through mediation and arbitration. Additionally, she has favorably resolved multiple professional licensure actions before the Connecticut Department of Public Health and other governmental agencies.

After receiving her J.D., Barbara served as a law clerk in the Connecticut Superior Court and went on to work for law firms as a senior staff attorney and senior counsel, as well as an of counsel and nurse analyst, and a nurse consultant before joining Shook. She also taught as an adjunct professor in the Legal Studies Program at the University of Hartford.
