With a degree in mechanical engineering and a background in automotive manufacturing, Michelle focuses her practice on representing Shook’s automotive clients in product liability, consumer and warranty litigation, and class action matters. She is also a member of the firm’s Data and Discovery Strategies practice group. Her representation of clients often begins during the discovery phase and ends with trial.

Michelle often becomes the resident subject matter authority in automotive cases, assisting the case team with understanding the technical subject matter of the case, and developing realistic and fruitful search strategies for discovery. Michelle has experience drafting review guidelines, supervising and managing document review teams of various sizes, reviewing documents for privilege concerns, and drafting privilege logs to comply with court, protective and/or ESI orders. Michelle enjoys working with company witnesses and retained defense experts during motion practice and trial preparation.

Before working with automotive clients, Michelle spent over five years working with Engle-progeny trial teams. As a seasoned trial team member, she is prepared to undertake any number of trial preparation and trial practice assignments, including development of witnesses, deposition designations, exhibit list drafting, objections and argument, and management of trial teams.

Michelle is also dedicated to pro bono work, actively working on matters through Shook’s Adopt-A-Neighborhood program, as well as its Project Affirmation, a pro bono name-change and gender-marker amendment clinic.

When not at work, Michelle can often be found volunteering at Kansas City Pet Project’s main shelter campus, and she actively fosters cats and kittens for the shelter.
