In recent years, the Shook Foundation has committed more than $300,000 to fund diversity-related scholarships and grants to support students at the University of Kansas School of Law, University of Missouri–Columbia School of Law, University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, University of Florida Levin College of Law, University of Miami (Florida) School of Law, University of San Francisco School of Law, University of California Hastings, and University of Iowa College of Law. The Foundation hopes to continue to expand the geographic scope of its scholarship and grant activities in the future.
“The mission of the Shook Foundation is to increase diversity in the legal workforce,” said former Shook Foundation President Jay Simpson. “The goal of these scholarships is to provide students from varied backgrounds the opportunity to study and practice law.”
Shook is recognized as a national leader among law firms for its diversity efforts. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) presented the firm its 2010 Thomas L. Sager Award, and Shook was the inaugural recipient of The Coca-Cola Company’s 2008 Living the Values Award.
