Panoramic on Cybersecurity: Global Overview

Attorneys from Shook’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice have contributed to Lexology’s 2026 Panoramic on Cybersecurity. Shook Partner Colman McCarthy authored the guide's global overview, and Senior Counsel Jon Wilson and Associates Josh Hansen, Lindsey Knapton and Brandon Large served as editors. The publication serves as a quick reference guide “enabling side-by-side comparison of local insights,” identifying key legislation and international standards, recommending best practices, covering enforcement and discussing recent developments and trends.

In the trends section, McCarthy notes that the world of cyber threats is ever-evolving. He says that while companies can expect to see the same categories of attacks, they can also expect attacks at a higher level of sophistication and speed as a result of the evolution of generative and agentic AI. “Similarly, defensive cyber measures will also continue to evolve to meet these new challenges. Increased AI sophistication can be leveraged by organisations to more constantly monitor and respond to incidents before they become catastrophic events,” McCarthy says.
