"Enough is Enough": Schwartz Writes on Climate Change Tort Litigation for Law360

Shook Partner and Public Policy Group Co-Chair Victor Schwartz has authored a Law360 article arguing that climate change tort litigation should not be an issue for courts to consider. Schwartz explains that municipalities, counties and states have filed lawsuits alleging that oil and gas producers should be liable for climate change effects. "The lawsuits have alleged various legal theories, but the courts have rejected all of them," Schwartz explains.

"Bringing lawsuits to blame the companies that manufacture energy may generate headlines, but will do nothing to address the issues," he asserts. "These lawsuits waste scarce judicial resources and threaten jobs and our economy, and it is time for the courts to put an end to them."
