Cate is an attorney in Shook’s General Liability Litigation Group. In addition to practicing previously in construction litigation in a private law firm, Cate brings an insider’s knowledge of the Missouri appellate court system and the federal court system within Missouri. Before Shook, Cate worked for a private law firm where she researched and drafted pleadings and motions in complex corporate disputes, successfully defeated motions to dismiss in federal court, and drafted pleadings for and against motions for summary judgment in federal court and in arbitration. She also prepared witnesses for and defended depositions for plaintiffs in high-profile construction defect litigation in Missouri state court and deposed several correctional officers for plaintiffs in federal civil rights litigation. Cate served as a law clerk to the Honorable Henry Edward Autrey, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri and to the Honorable Lisa Van Amburg, Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District.
