Mahalia practices in the firm’s General Liability Litigation Group. She began her career in private practice as a general liability litigator at a large national firm, where she worked on national coordinating counsel teams for corporate clients facing multimillion-dollar demands. She has also served as local product liability counsel for manufacturers of various automotive, electrical and cosmetic products. Over the course of her career, Mahalia has helped craft and implement defense strategies in state and federal courts throughout the United States, including Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri, Illinois and California.

Before joining Shook, Mahalia handled commercial general liability lawsuits, working in all phases of litigation. Her practice focused on premise liability, construction delay claims, wrongful death, trucking and transportation and breach of contract suits. During this time, she represented large, international banks; general contractors; insurance companies; and global corporations in individual and multi-plaintiff cases. Mahalia’s previous litigation experience also includes asbestos, talc, diacetyl, and professional liability suits. Her experience with construction litigation, in particular, required her to use technical knowledge to synthesize complicated facts related to complex, multi-year, multi-party projects. Mahalia has extensive discovery experience, and she exercises a detail-oriented mindset in formulating effective trial and litigation strategies for her clients.

Mahalia’s experience working as a judicial intern, as an intern at the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, and later as a law clerk, allows her to offer invaluable insights into the inner workings of Georgia law and Georgia’s court systems. In the same light, Mahalia’s experience representing coal miners pursuing black lung benefits, as a student at Washington and Lee University School of Law, provided her with a unique perspective into medical cases. Mahalia also interned with several personal injury law firms, which provided her with advantageous insight into the true value of a case.
