Appel Elected to the American Law Institute
Shook Public Policy Group Of Counsel Chris Appel has been elected as a new member of the American Law Institute (ALI). The ALI is perhaps the most influential private organization in the development of American law. Founded in 1923, the organization’s membership is composed of distinguished judges, law professors and practitioners who work toward the ALI’s mission to promote clarity and uniformity in the law by producing authoritative work products across a wide range of subjects. The ALI is best known for developing Restatements of Law and the Model Penal Code.
For nearly a decade, Appel has worked with ALI Life Member Victor Schwartz, Partner and Co-Chair of Shook's Public Policy Group, to contribute to the development of various ALI work products. In recent years, Appel has actively participated in the Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance; Restatement of the Law, Consumer Contracts; and Principles of the Law—Data Privacy, among others.
Public Policy Co-Chairs Victor Schwartz, Phil Goldberg and Mark Behrens also are members of ALI, in addition to Partner John Barkett, who focuses on environmental and global arbitration matters.
