Shook Trial Team Named ALM Litigator of the Week Runner-Up
ALM’s Litigation Daily featured a Shook trial team as a Litigator of the Week Runner-Up for its successful defense of Honda in what is believed to be the first ADAS/autonomous technology class trial and the largest automotive product trial of any type.
The case, which is being closely watched by the automotive industry, followed the consolidation of six large, multi-state class actions and concerned a certified class of purchasers of 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2020 Honda Accord vehicles in California, New York, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, New Jersey and Arizona.
This case had billions of dollars at stake for the client under the plaintiffs’ damages theory. After a multiweek trial, the jurors returned a defense verdict to the client on claims brought on behalf of a New York class under the state’s General Business law and on the California class’s implied warranty claims, while deadlocking on claims brought under California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act.
The Shook trial team representing Honda included Frank Kelly, Michael Mallow, Mark Campbell, Andrew Chang, Matthew Culp, Kristine Avena, Amir Nassihi and Stephanie McGraw.
