Jake focuses his practice on intellectual property and commercial contracting, with a focus on technology transactions, as well as data privacy and security consulting.
Throughout his career, Jake has supported Fortune 50 technology companies in negotiating, structuring and drafting complex contracts with third party technology vendors, such as product development, software development, sponsored research, product supply and contract manufacturer agreements. He drafts and negotiates settlement agreements to resolve disputes based on these contracts. In addition, he works with clients to develop website terms of use, services agreements (including for cloud services and software as a service (SAAS) services), IP licensing agreements, and contest and sweepstakes official rules. He also advises clients on the legal implications of using open-source and copyleft software and has worked on infringement claims, take-down notices and cease and desist for website content.
Jake is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP) and develops tools to assist clients in their efforts to become compliant with data privacy laws, draft privacy policies for their websites and respond to data security incidents. He has experience not only in U.S. laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) but also in European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Before joining Shook, Jake worked for a boutique law firm specializing in intellectual property and technology transactions.
