Jake focuses his practice on intellectual property, technology transactions and data privacy and security. His experience includes working in law firms, for government agencies, legal service companies and community and nonprofit organizations. 

Jake is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP) and develops tools to assist clients in their efforts to become compliant with privacy laws. He has experience not only in U.S. laws but also in European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), incorporating working on Data Protection Impact Analysis and principle-based EU Gap Analysis. 

Jake worked in the Washington State Office of Privacy and Data Security Protection, evaluating privacy management tools for use by state agencies to carry out a privacy impact assessment of Washington State government. This involved engaging with state and municipal agencies regarding privacy compliance assessment. Jake also worked at the Seattle Art Museum focusing on privacy law with the museum’s general counsel. In this role he drafted and reviewed contracts and conducted legal research related to state, federal and international regulatory compliance, in particular the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Jake’s many legal services he offers clients include creating cloud services agreements, terms of use, research for registration of domain names and entity formation and analyzing copyright. He has worked on infringement claims, take-down notices and cease and desist for website content. Before joining Shook, Jake worked for a boutique law firm specializing in intellectual property and technology transactions.
