Jacob is an attorney with the firm’s Environmental and Toxic Tort Litigation Practice, with a focus on defending companies in high-stakes lawsuits related to PFAS, glyphosate, radioactive waste and lead. First and foremost, Jacob is a writer. He routinely drafts discovery, Daubert and dispositive motions in state and federal courts. As Jacob learned while clerking, clarity is king. He therefore leverages his background in environmental science to make complex fact patterns and legal regimes digestible to judges and laypeople alike. Jacob has also managed case schedules, coordinated written discovery and taken depositions.
Before joining Shook, Jacob served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable William C. Griesbach of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. As a clerk, he managed half of the court’s civil docket, prepared draft orders and decisions, and drafted bench memoranda for motion hearings and oral arguments. In law school, Jacob externed for two federal judges, interned at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, served as a research assistant to Professor Shannon Roesler and was Managing Editor of the Iowa Law Review.
